Diesel is 35 to 45% of a truck's running cost. How a price rise reaches the operator's margin and the instalment.
A 31-tonne truck running 8,000 km a month at 4 km a litre uses about 2,000 litres. A ₹5 rise in the price of diesel adds about ₹10,000 a month to costs, roughly a third of a typical instalment.
Contract operators usually have a fuel clause and recover the rise within a month or two. Spot-market operators recover it only when freight rates catch up, typically two to three months later.
E4 (diesel price up more than 5% in 30 days, 3 points, fleet operators only) is deliberately small. It is context, not a reason to call. Combine it with the operator's other signals and with freight rates (E3, KB-029).
